Five launch events were organized across Europe to present the project and its preliminary results to a national audience of experts, practitioners and relevant stakeholders in the aviation domain. More than 120 participants attended the online events. Keynote speakers provided the impetus for a discussion on topics related to the project. To keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, all the events were held online.

LAUNCH EVENT – ITALY

Date: October 6th 2020

Participants: 55

Key Topic: how the role of future workforce professionals will evolve in the next years.

Description: The Italian launch event was held on the 6th of October, more than 50 participants joined the event. The event was a great opportunity to share the preliminary results achieved so far.

The first panel session was focused on exploring the emerging and future technological changes such as digitalisation, remotisation of the operations, artificial intelligence that are currently shaping the air transport sector and will have a significant impact on the aviation workforce. This session counted interventions from Pier Carlo Cacciabue, Professor at Kingston University and Politecnico di Milano and Italo Oddone, former pilot, Air Dolomiti (Lufthansa) and Giancarlo Ferrara, ATM/U-space Expert at Eurocontrol.

During the second panel session we discussed how the role of future workforce professionals will evolve in the next years. This session counted interventions from Fabio Olivetti, head of the ENAV training Academy, Monica Maccaferri, head of the Care Team Group at Bologna Airport and Giusy Sciacca ATM System Evolution and Strategic Service Planning at Enav.

Key Topic: cooperation of pilot and controller & current and future teaching.

Description: The skill-UP launch event aimed to present the project to the French national audience of experts, practitioners and relevant stakeholders in the aviation domain. The event was a great opportunity to share the preliminary results achieved so far. Four future scenarios and the key results from the survey “The transition from study to work in the aviation sector” were presented. The event counted the participation of Julie Saint-Lot ATM, training expert at ENAC. The focus of the intervention was on the cooperation between pilot and controller and current and future challenges for training and education in the ATM sector.

Description:During the Portugal Air Summit a specific panel was organised to launch the project within the Portuguese aerospace community! Our project partners, APANT – Associação Portuguesa de Aeronaves Não Tripuladas together with Quasar Consulting, took this opportunity to discuss the added value of the project, as well as current achievements.

Launch event – malta

Description: The skill-UP launch event aimed to present the project to the Maltese national audience of experts, practitioners and relevant stakeholders in the aviation domain. The event was a great opportunity to share the preliminary results achieved so far. Captain Robert Risso MSc., TM-CAD, was invited as external keynote speaker. His presentation was focused on the training needs of future pilots within the context of the aviation sector in Malta

Launch event – turkey

Key Topics: Technological innovations in aviation, such as technological infrastructures in airports (5G technology,..), cybersecurity in airports, automation and robotic applications, artificial intelligence, using autonomous vehicles in airport operations, biometric applications. 

Description: The skill-UP launch event aimed to present the project to the Turkish national audience of experts, practitioners and relevant stakeholders in the aviation domain. Kürşad Koçak,  Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the TAV Airports Holding Group, was invited as keynote speaker. He has a very rich experience about the aviation business, especially ground handling and airport operation. The main topic of discussion was around the technological innovations in aviation, such as technological infrastructures in airports (5G technology,..), cybersecurity in airports, automation and robotic applications, artificial intelligence, using autonomous vehicles in airport operations, biometric applications. Furthermore, the future directions in aeronautics were discussed: future business models at airport business, Big Data analysis at airports, sustainability, adaptation of these sectors’ employees to change and transformation.
